Peranakan Food

If you like Peranakan food, go to Helen's Deli. This no-frills eatery along Upper Thomson Road (near Sin Ming) serves excellent Peranakan food. Three dishes stood out. Helen's Curry chicken, Fishmaw soup and Fried Kangkong. The curry chicken was very tender and not too spicy. The fishmaw was stuffed with minced meat and boiled with bamboo shoots. When we were there on Sat night, the Fried Kangkong was sold out. So we asked the staff if they could replace the Kangkong with Kailan. They agreed. And we had one of the best Fried Kailan, ever. The taste was in the special chilli sauce use for frying the vegetable. For dessert, we had chendol and durian puff. The chendol was so so, but the durian puffs were good. I saw many customers buying durian puffs by the boxes.
