Por Kee Eating House in Tiong Bahru
Por Kee restaurant in Tiong Bahru has been around since 1996. It is very crowded even on weekday night. Avoid going there on weekends. The main attraction is the good and moderately priced food. Por Kee’s signature dish is the yam basket and champagne pork ribs. At $18, the yam basket is value for money. The mashed yam is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The centre of the yam ring is filled with chicken cubes, prawns, pepper veg and cashew nuts. Order the cold dish if you have a large group. At $60 for a large order, you get 5 kinds of food, champagne pork ribs, spring rolls, fried eggs with crab meat, deep fried fish roll and jelly fish. The name “cold dish” is a misnomer as the food are hot except for the jelly fish. The fried noodles with scambled eggs and prawns look like Whampoa noodles, but is actually fried mee sau. At $18 a plate, it is not cheap. Por Kee is in Seng Poh Lane (car park)
